Protect Your Eyes And Lungs At The Work Site

The eyes are the means by which one can see. A worker who cannot see is about as useful as a bent nail. Also, the workplace is an area where toxic fumes and harmful particulates pervade in the air thus hampering the breathing of the worker. So, in order to keep the worker protected at the work site, it is important that eye goggles and face masks are used at all times. Below is a brief description of these two safety gears.

1) Eye goggles

Eye goggles are pieces of see through plastic designed as eye wear. It has two basic designs. The first one is like your ordinary piece of eyeglasses or shades, but only bigger and with flaps designed to rest on the cheek area and the sides of the head. The second design is the plastic facemask that is secured with a rubber strap around the head, much like a scuba gear face mask.

The reason why these eye goggles are needed when performing work at the site is to provide adequate protection for the eyes against debris or fumes that may cause injury. A great number of injuries at work sites across the country could have been avoided had there been adequate eye protection used.

Most often, eye injuries serve as the cause for greater injury because the immediate reaction is to put one's hands to the eyes, thus leaving the power tool still running which causes further injury and damage. In the end, not only is there eye injuries, such as corneal damage or even blindness, limbs have been known to have been injured inadvertently.

2) Face mask

A face mask is a small covering, usually lined with a thin material which covers the nasal and mouth area of the worker. It is secured usually by a rubber strap to keep the mask in place. The mask is used in order to protect the worker from dust and fumes from being inhaled when performing the work. If chemicals used are accidentally inhaled, internal injuries occur. Also, the mask serves to prevent fine dust from entering the nasal area and thus avoid allergenic reactions.

In the long run, the face mask serves to absorb materials which would otherwise deposit itself in the lung area of the worker and cause long term damage to the health of the worker. It would also allow clean air to be inhaled despite the presence of particulates floating in the air. The mask serves as both an insulator and protector from long term damage.

The above items are inexpensive safety gear which would keep the worker safe and sound while at work. The eye goggles are designed to protect the eyes of the worker from risk and injury. The face mask provides for insulation against harmful particulates from being inhaled by the worker while at work. It would be a wise investment to purchase these simple items and have them used while working at the site. It guarantees the safety and well being of the worker while working at the job site.
