Gloves And Shoes For Work Safety
In home improvement projects, the health and safety of the worker must be ensured at all times. This is to prevent any injury that may occur, thus slowing the project and driving up costs in both time and medical bills. One way to keep the worker safe is to use basic safety gear while undertaking the work. Here are two basic safety gears which would surely lessen the risk of accidents while at the job.
1) Gloves
Gloves are items worn on the hands by the worker. These items are designed to protect the hands of the worker from injury, depending on the work done, yet still allow the necessary flexibility to perform the tasks at hand.
The gloves worn by the worker depends upon the work to be done. For carpentry work, the gloves are usually made of thin material with rubber grips on the palms to allow for traction when holding the tools such as a hammer. The gloves are worn to protect the hands from the friction caused by the tool on bare skin and to avoid abrasions. For some other tasks, like in the use of power tools, the gloves are there as insulators against the heat generated by the power tool in the course of work.
When use of chemicals or electrical work is to be done, the gloves used are of a different nature. These gloves are wholly rubberized to provide insulation against electrical shock or discharge. Also, it serves as a sheath to protect against the skin's chemical scalding if inadvertent contact with the chemical is made.
2) Safety Shoes
Safety shoes, to the untrained eye may seem to be ordinary work boots. But upon closer examination, the insides of the shoes provide the difference.
The first difference is the steel toe of the shoe. This steel cover is embedded in the shoe, near the toe area and it serves to protect the toes from being flattened if a heavy object falls on the feet of the worker. Furthermore, the sole of the boots are made of rubber and plastic. This is to ensure that no circuit would be formed if and when a live electrical wire touches the worker.
Also, the rubber sole provides the proper grip on the floor to avoid slipping when working in wet conditions. Finally, the safety shoes are water tight to prevent seepage of water or any liquid that may cause unnecessary discomfort or injury.
Though these may seem to be a small investment for the worker, the use of these simple items in everyday work would keep the worker safe and healthy at all times. Gloves, when worn while at work, creates the proper grip when handling the tool and avoids injuries caused to the hands. Safety shoes, on the other hand, protect the feet and at the same time provide insulation and grip on the work area floor. The use of these items lessens the risk of injury until the completion of the home improvement project.
