Four Things Construction Workers Should Check On Their Equipment
When working on a construction site, a person has to be physically fit in order to accomplish the tasks he is assigned to do. Not only that, he must be fully equipped to get the job done. Even if he has the right equipment, he has to take care of himself. He can't have any mishaps going on or he might get into an accident. Here are some things a construction worker should check on his equipment to make sure that he won't encounter any problems.
1. Head gear – Construction workers should always have the proper head gear when working in a construction yard. They should always check if the hard hat they have on has no dents or cracks as it won't be able to protect the construction worker's head properly.
Also, the hard hat should not be loose so that it won't fall off. This is because if the construction worker's head is not protected, debris may fall on him and may potentially kill him if he doesn't have a hard hat on.
2. Tool belts – A tool belt should never be loose on a construction worker's waist. This is because it may cause some difficulties if he is working at high altitudes. These difficulties may include the belt getting snagged somewhere or it may cause him to be off balance because it is too loose.
Also, a construction worker should check the straps where he may place his tools. If a strap is about to wear out, he should have it repaired or replaced as soon as possible. No one would like to have his hammer suddenly drop about twenty stories down and hit an innocent passerby. So it's a must that he checks the straps before and after every use of his tool belt.
3. Work gloves – Work gloves should be checked regularly for any rips or portions that are wearing out. This is because in construction work, one can never be too careful. If for some particular reason a construction worker's glove may rip, he may get cuts while working on the site if he doesn't replace it or have it repaired.
Also, work gloves shouldn't be too loose on the construction worker's hands. This is because if the gloves are too loose, the construction worker may have difficulties in doing his tasks. Construction work really involves the use of the hands. Without a pair of able working gloves, a construction worker is at risk of getting his hands injured.
4. Work boots – It's recommended that construction workers use a pair of steel toe work boots. This is because the steel portion of the boots will protect the toes from objects that may fall on it. It may not be a piece of debris, but it could well be his tool. This means that if the boots are worn out already or of the steel portion of the boot has sustained a lot of dents, these should be replaced as soon as possible.
These are just some things a construction worker should check on his equipment before or after using them at a construction site.
