Four Protection Gear Accessories You Can't Do Without

If you are a person who works at a construction site or factory, then you will know why it is so important that you wear your protective gear at all times. But there are a few people who do fail to remember their gear and this can oftentimes lead to their demise. So that you won't be one of those who forget about the safety gear dress code in dangerous construction, mining, or factory floor areas, keep a short list of the main accessories that will keep you safe.

• A helmet – This almost goes without saying. If you work in a place where it is likely that there will be falling objects, then a helmet is one of the first things that you should have on. Safety helmets protect the most important part of your body; even the slightest accident to the head will lead to some serious consequences on a psychological level. Safety helmets are made of a hard plastic that deflect falling objects. They may not stop a falling object but they will certainly cushion the blow and so your head will not be harmed at all.

• Safety glasses – Also known as safety goggles, these are most important to wear on construction sites, manufacturing plants, chemical factories and anywhere where there might be any threat of damage to your eyes. These goggles are colorless and are only meant to protect the eyes and a portion of the face around them. If you are a person who needs to wear prescription glasses to work, a special pair can be made for you. But the nice thing about safety goggles is that some of them are big enough to cover glasses that you wear. Otherwise, you will probably need to wear contact lenses if you can't get graded goggles.

• Safety boots – In places like mining areas and chemical plants, it may be advisable to wear safety footwear as well. This is to protect any damage that may happen to your feet. In mining and lumber, safety boots will usually have a carbon steel toe-cap, slip-resistant soles, and padded tongues and lining for comfort. This is especially useful to have on in slippery areas and in places where you think something may fall on your foot, like in mining situations.

• Padded overalls – You might come across some factories that will require you to wear padded overalls. Some of these overalls are oftentimes burn resistant and this can be very useful in places where chemicals are being used, or in places that are highly flammable. A flame retardant suit is probably one of the best things to have second to a helmet and safety boots because it protects your whole body from potential harm.

The next time that you find yourself in a situation where you are touring a factory or walking around a construction site, make sure that you have at least two or three of these items on you. You never know when an accident may happen and when it does, at least you will be ready. It might be your own life that you save.
