Four Things To Consider When Buying Power Tools

Power tools are widely available and all you have to do is to check your local home improvement store. If you have doubts, you can bring someone with you so you can have a second opinion to help you decide which power tool to buy. When shopping for power tools here are some things that you should look for.

1. Type. Each power tool may have a number of variants so before you decide on one, it would be better if you check out the other variants. Some variants are more applicable for massive construction jobs, while others are engineered to be used only for do-it-yourself home improvement projects. If you are a woman, find a type that you will able to handle. Remember that some power tools can be heavy so find one that you will be able to carry and operate.

2. Power Source. Different power tools have different power sources. Just because it is labeled as power tool doesn't mean that it should be powered solely by electricity. Well, this might have been true years ago, but then again, some modifications and changes have taken place and now we have power tools that are powered by compressed air and powder actuated tools which operate like a loaded gun.

If you find electricity powered tools too much of a hassle because you think that the electrical cords can get in the way, then you can always settle for cordless power tools. Cordless power tools allow you to move around without having to drag an electrical cord or worrying about where to plug it.

3. Amperage and Voltage. This is the amount of power a power tool can generate. Usually those tools that are hard wired are capable of generating more power which is usually measured in amps. So the higher the amperage, the higher the power the tool generates.

Years ago, power tools that generate around five to six amps are already considered as top of the line; however, some modifications have enabled manufacturers to pack more power into the small motors of some power tools so now it is rather common to find small motored power tools that have eleven to twelve amps.

If amps is used to measure the power generated by hardwired power tools voltage is the unit of measurement for power in cordless power tools. Cordless power tools are usually run by batteries, so the higher the voltage these batteries contain, the longer it will last. In addition, more voltage also means more power and more torque.

4. Features. There are a lot of power tools being sold in the market today and each type has its own features and specifications. So before buying one, take time to check out what features that particular power tool has and if those features will be useful for you. You have to remember though that not all power tools have the same features and specification that is why it is important that you have enough time to compare two types of power tools before you decide.
